The Polesworth Circle: The Education of William Shakespeare
Burdett, Robert
How Shakespeare learned the art of storytelling.
Building upon a thesis proposed by Arthur Gray, Master of Jesus College, Cambridge, this book contains a history play which dramatizes how Henry Goodyer, Thomas Burdett, and Raphael Holinshed, via a literary salon called the “Polesworth Circle,” educated, trained, and supported two of England’s most notable poets and playwrights, Michael Drayton and William Shakespeare. The book begins with an introduction (the six premises of the play) and an overview (abstract, cast, setting, time). The play, which consists of nine acts, begins with a prologue - a brief history of England and Polesworth.

Upon the Corner of the Moon
Nieman, Valerie
The Macbeths you've never known: Book One of Alba
It is the dawn of the second millennium. Two royal Scottish children are swept away from their families—Macbeth to the perilous royal court of his grandfather, Gruach to the remnants of the goddess-worshiping Picts. Macbeth learns that blood bonds are easily severed while Gruach finds her path only to lose it when she’s summoned back to the patriarchal world. They struggle with gaining and losing power, guided and misguided by prophecy and politics as their paths converge in a fiery bid for royal succession. Upon the Corner of the Moon separates literary legend from reality, immersing readers in a story about the real rulers who changed the face of Scotland. Some legends are true, and the truth sometimes becomes a legend—or a lie. This novel masterfully dovetails the Macbeth legend and the truth without sacrificing either.
"Nieman has woven a masterful story with the attention to detail of a historian and the lyrical skill of a seasoned poet." Books for Readers

The Day the Sun Disappeared
Moxom, Margaret
The RAF Fauld Explosion
The Air Ministry kept it secret - they didn't want their failure known. It was the biggest explosion ever on UK soil, not caused by enemy warfare. Bombs were being stored and refurbished in disused alabaster mines, under fields in Staffordshire, for the war effort. The store wasn't properly supervised and the resultant explosion left a crater as big as six football pitches, into which a whole farm disappeared. The explosion erupted in a mushroom cloud, containing earth, trees, cattle, and 20 ton chunks of alabaster, that descended, crashing through buildings for miles around. The explosion was recorded in Geneva and heard in London. Survivors were trapped underground, desperately trying to escape the toxic gas pervading the tunnels. Rescue services were called from all over, attempting to get to them but bring held back by the gas. Bodies were still being recovered years afterwards. This is a history that should never be allowed to be forgotten.
