In book 1, Clarence, age 12, traveled from Nebraska to Australia with a group of entertainers. It was the trip of a lifetime, except for one thing. Clarence is the only African American on the trip, and many of his companions don’t want him along.
In book 2, Clarence’s adventures take him from Australia to India, Egypt, Italy, France, and Great Britain. He’ll climb Mount Vesuvius, get lost in the Roman Catacombs, and join a secret anarchist plot. And he still must overcome the unrelenting hatred of those he travels with.
Join Clarence on his search for the belonging, acceptance, and dignity that all of us want and deserve. He’s not a traditional hero. Clarence is a hero who real people who have faced bullying or discrimination can relate to. His adventures will have you cheering for him even as you question why people would hate a child.
This book is suitable for both young adult and adult readers.
